Box.com Transfers

Overview

Users can transfer data between their environments and Box.com via the transfer server. Here's how it works:

  • Uploading data

    • Transfer your desired files to the transfer server following the SFTP Data Transfers Data Exports guide

    • Log into the transfer server with FastX 2 and log into box.com

    • Upload files from the transfer server to box

      • Files will be located in your export/<user> directory

  • Downloading data

    • Log into the transfer server with FastX 2 and log into your box.com account and download

    • Download your desired files

      • Files will automatically download to your import/<user> directory

    • Transfer these files to your Stronghold environment by following the SFTP Data Transfers Data Imports guide

FTPS Uploads

Note: Uploading to Box.com requires the use of FTPS and Box.com only supports this functionality for paid accounts.

1. Transfer Data from Environment to Xfer Server

Transfer export files from the Stronghold workstation to the xfer server using the instruction found under the Transferring Export Data to Xfer Server from Workstation section in Data Exports. You will need to be part of the sh_<tenant>_export_w group to finish the transfer to your workstation.

2. Create SSH Connection

Run FastX 2 from your local workstation

Click the + icon and select SSH

Complete the SSH connection fields.

Replace <tenant> with your assigned tenant and <username>with the username used to access Stronghold . The Name field can be filled in with any name you would like to call your session and Sci should be left blank. We recommend calling your session <tenant>-download where you replace <tenant> with your assigned tenant.

Click Save

  • Name: <name>

  • Host: <tenant>.stronghold.brown.edu

  • Port: 2223

  • User: <username>

  • Sci:

You will be prompted for your password and then a Duo two-factor confirmation.

Next you will see what looks like another password prompt, but if you read the text you’ ll see it’s actually prompting you to select a Duo authentication method. Enter the number of your choice and click Continue. Confirm your Duo authentication in the manner you selected.

The first time you log into this service, you may see a message regarding the authenticity of the the host. Enter “yes” in the text field and click “Continue”.

3. Start Filezilla Session and Tranfer Data

Click the + icon, select Filezilla and click OK.

FastX Sessions

Connect to box.com using their FTP instructions.

Transfer the files to box.com from your home directory under export/<user>/

Downloads

Downloads can be achieved via the Box.com web interface or with FTPS (if you have a paid account). These instructions are for using the web interface.

1. Create SSH Connection

Run FastX 2 from your local workstation

Click the + icon and select SSH

Click the + icon, select Firefox and click OK.

Type https://account.box.com into the URL bar to connect to Box.com

3. Transfer Data from Xfer Server to Environment

You can then log into your Stronghold workstation to complete the transfer by following the Transferring Import Data from Xfer Server to Workstation section in our Data Imports guide. You will need to be part of the sh_<tenant>_import_r group to finish the transfer to your workstation. Your file will be under theimport/<username> directory.
